I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and New Year! I did!
Guess what type of dog I’m writing about this month? Any ideas? Well, it’s a winter breed that kind of looks like a husky…and it’s called the Alaskan Malamute!
This dog is one of my favorite breeds. I know I say that a lot, but that’s because I have a lot of favorite dogs! Alaskan malamutes are big, strong dogs. In Alaska, they are used to pull sleds. The Alaskan malamute’s thick double coat keeps him warm in winter or cold climates.
The Alaskan malamute needs lots of exercise or he can become destructive. In the summertime, he needs to be walked early in the morning and late in the evening. Alaskan malamutes are great hiking or jogging buddies, for those of you who like to be outdoors a lot! The Alaskan malamute’s coat color can be gray and white, just white, or black and white.
I like Alaskan malamutes because they are from Alaska, which is where I’ve always wanted to go to compete in the Iditarod, which is a dogsled race. That’s why when I grow up, I want to own an Alaskan malamute (and a bunch of other dogs) so I could train him to be a sled dog!
