Hey everybody, I’m back!
I’m so glad it’s finally December! Want to know why? Because it means Christmas season is here! Christmas time is my favorite time of year! I like it when we decorate the house for Christmas, putting up the Christmas tree and decorating it with lots of ornaments and lights. I enjoy watching Christmas movies and Christmas specials on TV, and most importantly I love celebrating the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ on Christmas Day!
Since it is also wintertime, I chose for the December Dog of the Month to be a dog that is suitable for cold climates, and it’s called a Finnish spitz!
Finnish spitzes look sort of like foxes with their pointed noses and triangular ears. They originated from Finland, where they were used as hunting dogs. Finnish spitzes are also Finland’s national dog!
The Finnish spitz makes a great family dog because he is easy to train and loves to play with kids and other dogs. But they are big barkers! In fact, Finnish spitzes love their families so much that they tend to bark a lot if they are left alone for a long time. They will also bark to let you know when somebody is at the door.
The Finnish spitz has a fluffy, soft double coat that keeps him warm in cold weather. They love snow! The colors of a Finnish spitz’s coat range from a light honey color to a deep reddish color called auburn.

Fun Fact!
Dogs aren’t actually color blind. Even though they mostly see the world as gray, they can see colors like blue or yellow. They just can’t see red or green, which is too bad because those are Christmas colors!
