Hello everybody!
April is already here, and so am I with the latest Dog of the Month, which is the poodle!
The poodle originated in Germany and was bred to retrieve ducks and other waterfowl. In fact, the breed’s name comes from a German word that means “to splash in the water.” Additionally, poodles were and still are used as circus dogs, and because of that, they are extremely smart and learn new tricks easily! They also have the ability to stand on their hind legs more easily than other types of dogs. My own dog, who’s part poodle, does it all the time!
Poodles come in three different varieties: standard, miniature, and toy; and all kinds of solid colors including black, white, apricot, and gray. A lot of them are hypoallergenic, which means they are great for people who have allergies because they don’t shed as much as some of the other dog breeds. But because of that, they need daily brushing to prevent their coats from matting. They also need lots of exercise, especially standard poodles.
If you’re looking for a dog and think that a poodle will be right for you, please consider adopting one instead of buying one from a breeder! There are many excellent poodles waiting for new homes in breed rescue groups and animal shelters.
Okay then, that’s it for now. See you later, and Happy Easter everybody!
