Hey everybody! Today is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day! This day, which is annually observed on April 30, was invented to promote pet adoption and raise awareness about homeless pets across our nation. For those of you who are looking to add a new furry friend to your life, please consider adopting one from your local animal shelter or rescue. Pet adoption is a lot more common now, since many people are aware that millions of healthy, well-behaved (at least, mostly) pets are being brought into animal shelters every year, through no fault of their own. Many of these animals have wonderful personalities and temperaments, and are just looking for loving fur-ever homes. Adopting one of them saves their life and gives them a second chance! To get you started, here are some pet adoption websites you can check out to search for homeless pets, shelters, and rescue organizations in your area. Oh, and another thing: While searching for your paw-fect (or purr-fect) pet, be sure to consider the less-adoptable pets, too, like the black animals (which often get overlooked), the “bully” breeds (which usually aren’t bullies at all), and the seniors (which can still learn new tricks)! As they say in the animal rescue community, please adopt, don’t shop!
