Hi guys! Welcome back to the Dogroll!
The Dog of the Month for April is the Maltese. These dogs, which originated from the island of Malta, are very affectionate and loyal to their people because they were bred to be lap dogs. They love to follow their people everywhere and are easygoing companions, being known to especially attach themselves to one person. Because of their small size, Maltese are great for senior citizens or people who live in apartments, and they’re even portable!
The Maltese’s silky white coat should be brushed every day to prevent matting. Many Maltese owners also get their dogs’ coats cut short by a professional groomer for easier maintenance. Because it does not shed, this dog is an ideal choice for allergy sufferers.
If you’re interested in getting a Maltese, please remember to adopt, don’t shop! There are plenty of Maltese and Maltese mixes waiting for new homes at animal shelters and rescue groups like the American Maltese Rescue. Websites like Adopt-A-Pet and Petfinder can also help you find adoptable Maltese dogs near you!
Thanks for reading!
