Greetings, dog lovers! Happy Superbowl Saturday! (My dad made me say that since we are preparing our annual family tradition of watching the big game together so expect Perk Pictures to be in tune for every play 🙂

Well, I’m back with the latest Dog of the Month! Valentine’s Day is coming up, so I chose to write about the American Eskimo Dog. If you look at the pictures I’ve posted of this dog, you might realize that the reason I decided to write about this dog is because it’s a white dog, and since white and red go together, I think a white dog holding a red plush heart in his mouth with a red bow around the dog’s neck would be a great Valentine’s gift! (Although I do suggest that you shouldn’t give a dog as a surprise present, as the person that you’re giving him to might not even want a dog, or might not be ready or prepared for the responsibility. Just keep that in mind.)

Even though he is called the American Eskimo Dog, he is really not an American dog breed, and he isn’t an Eskimo dog either. He actually came from spitz European dogs like the pomeranian and the keeshond.

American Eskimo Dogs, or Eskies, can have either white fur or white/cream colored fur. There are three different sizes of the Eskie: standard, miniature, and toy, just like poodles! The American Eskimo Dog is easy to train and is great at learning and showing off tricks! In fact, they even used to be used as circus dogs.

Okay, that’s all I have to say about this Dog of the Month. Thanks for reading and enjoy watching the game. GO PANTHERS!

Fun Fact!
When a dog barks, it makes his body produce chemicals called endorphins that make the dog feel great, which makes him want to keep barking, even for no reason. That’s sometimes why dogs like to bark so much; they also do it if they’re bored. So if your dog keeps barking for no reason at all, even if you’ve told him to stop, it’s probably because he has nothing to do. So just give him something to play with or play with him so he won’t be bored!
