American Water Spaniel

Welcome back readers and dog lovers!

Are you ready for the next Dog of the Month? Well, here it is…the American Water Spaniel! It’s August and hot outside. At this time of year everyone’s usually at the pool or at the beach swimming and if you’re looking for a dog that loves water, I picked a water breed to write about. This type of dog was bred in the Midwest in the United States, where he was used as a retrieving dog. He is very active, friendly with other animals, and is great with children if he is socialized with them as a puppy. American water spaniels love water and are great swimmers, so if you’re the kind of person that likes to swim, this dog may be the perfect pet for you! I bet he would love it if you took him to the beach with you! If they are not trained to be left by themselves, American water spaniels can start to bark or whine a lot. They need long walks and time to run around in a fenced yard every day.

American water spaniels have curly or wavy coats that can be liver brown or chocolate brown. They have an outer coat and an undercoat. While other spaniels usually have docked tails, this type of dog has a long, feathery tail that he uses to steer through water. Like I said before, they’re great swimmers!

That’s it for now. Thanks for reading and don’t forget to come back for the next Dog of the Month! Bye!
