Golden Retriever

Hi guys, I’m back!

The golden retriever is the Dog of the Month. It originated in England, where it was trained to retrieve game. What is game you may ask? Game are birds and animals that people hunt. The hunter would shoot the bird, and the golden retriever would follow the bird with its eyes to see where the bird lands. Then the golden would retrieve the bird for the hunter. The golden’s soft mouth enables it to carry the bird without destroying it.

Goldens are born with light colored coats, but the coat deepens to its real color after one year. They take a while to stop acting like puppies, even if they are already full grown. Their long golden coats need to be brushed two times a week. This pooch loves being close to his owners, and does great in obedience class because he loves to please you. They also love the water so if you need a fun swimming buddy, the golden retriever just might be your dog! Since they like to wander around, these dogs need to live in a house with a fenced-in yard. Golden retrievers are one of the most popular dogs in the U.S. and I can see why. With its friendly, eager-to-please temperament, and long golden coat, it is one of my most favorite dog breeds!

Well, that’s it for now. Thanks for reading and don’t forget to stay tuned for next month’s post!
